Screen printing

Screen printing is an engaging process of making an image using a mesh screen coated with photo sensitive emulsion. Monochrome drawings or photos on acetate sheet are taped to the screen and exposed to UV light. The screen is washed out and the drawn areas are revealed. The screen is then ready for printing the image onto paper or fabric using coloured inks made up of acrylic paint and printing medium. Images are printed by using the vacuum screen bed to hold the screen whilst the ink is pulled through using a squeegee. An image can be made up of layers using 3 or more different screens. There are many different approaches to producing an image using screen printing, its a fascinating process. Do come along and get the bug!
